Doherty sings from a varied repertoire including songs from Latin
America as well as Jazz swings and ballads.
Whether you are looking for a duo, trio or a quartet: music for a
wedding ceremony, background dinner music or music for dancing,
Sally can accommodate your needs. She can perform a good variety of
Jazz standards as well as songs from Brazil, Cuba and Mexico.
The Latin American songs include Bossa Novas, Sambas and Boleros and
are sung in their original languages of Portuguese and Spanish.
Her singing has been described as intimate and passionate. She sings
the Latin American songs in their original languages of Portuguese
and Spanish because, she says, “they sound so much more beautiful.
The English versions are often re-writes rather than translations
and they are rarely as poetic.”
As a Jazz and Latin performer her singing is intimate and sensuous
but at the same time expressive and passionate. Her inspiration
comes from singers such as Chet Baker, Sarah Vaughan, Ella
Fitzgerald, Stacey Kent, Nina Simone, Joao Gilberto, Rosa Passos.
