The
Nero String Quartet formed in 2001 in Birmingham. In 2003 The Nero
String Quartet received first prize in the Sylvia Cleaver Chamber
Music competition and was also awarded The Derek Young Memorial
Award.
In great demand they have performed recitals for the Birmingham
Chamber Music Society, Knighton Chamber Music Society, Dudley
Chamber Music Society, and Bromsgrove Chamber Music Society and at
the International Young Musicians' Festival. The Nero String Quartet
has also performed piano quintets with Alan Schiller and John
Humphreys.
They have studied under the Maggini Quartet, Endellion Quartet,
Lindsay Quartet, Schubert Ensemble, Allegri Quartet, Volger Quartet,
Vanbrugh Quartet and individuals such as Chris Roland and Brian
Hawkins. The Nero String Quartet has participated in several
festivals in the U.K and abroad. These include the London String
Quartet Festival and Capellades International Chamber music
Festival.
The Nero Quartet featured on the front cover of the educational
supplement to The Strad magazine in May 2004. In June 2005 they
performed as soloists with the Birmingham Conservatoire String
Orchestra.
Alongside their classical recital work The Nero String Quartet has a
wide range of lighter and popular music suitable for corporate
events. Members of The Nero String Quartet have experience playing
on cruise ships and have also appeared on pop and film music
recordings
