Marten Quartet are a London-based string quartet and one of the top
quartets working extensively throughout the UK and Europe...
Drawing on 15 years of professional experience this critically
acclaimed quartet are highly sought after for functions, pop and TV
work, film and recording sessions and recitals.
Their clients include Madonna, Robbie Williams, Elizabeth Taylor,
Claridge's, Kensington Palace and Top of the Pops.
FUNCTIONS AND RESIDENCIES
Using stunningly original arrangements and an eclectic mix of
styles, the Marten Quartet brings high class presentation and a
unique charisma to the string repertoire. With a smooth distinctive
sound and elegant sophistication they have an innate ability for
capturing the exact mood and atmosphere of any occasion and can
brilliantly pinpoint music to lift a crowd.
Their repertoire is extensive and ranges from large scale classical
works through to 1920’s jazz standards, pop covers and West End show
tunes. It is rare that the quartet cannot match a style or request
of clients. Placing heavy emphasis on presentation, they portray an
image of sophistication, elegance and glamour and this had made the
quartet a favourite with pop stars, film stars, charity and fashion
show organisers.
RESIDENCIES
The Marten Quartet have held several prestigious residencies
including Harrods, Selfridges and most notably a three year post in
the tea room of Claridges’ Hotel, where they built a substantial
rapport with guests and were regularly asked to perform at
additional events. During this time the quartet began to work for
the Savoy group and continue to perform at the Ritz, Dorchester and
Grosvenor hotels.
FUNCTIONS
Functions are a speciality of the quartet. Venues include Kensington
Palace, St James’ Palace, Cliveden, Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons and
the hospitality tent at Wimbledon. Clients include Elizabeth Taylor,
Prince Phillip, Trudie Styler, Estee Lauder and The Wallace
Collection. The Quartet also played for Floella Benjamin at the
Woman of the Year event 2000.
POP,TV AND FILM
The quartet have extensive experience in both live performances and
recording pop and rock music and are in demand for their ingenious
and creative string arrangements. As a glamourous and vibrant
all-female quartet they are frequently asked to perform on TV and at
live venues.
They have worked with such artists as Madonna, Robbie Williams,
Boyzone, Gareth Gates, Appleton and Sugababes.
In addition to appearing on Top of the Pops, Parkinson, Sportaid,
Ant and Dec’s Record of the Year, TFI Friday and the Big Breakfast,
they recorded their own arrangements and appeared in the BBC drama
"20,000 Streets Under the Sky".
Film and TV sessions include the Oscar winning Finding Neverland,
The Importance of Being Earnest, Rugrats Go Wild, Cutting It, The
Way We Live Now, Bleakhouse and The Forsyte Saga.
CLASSICAL
As an accomplished classical ensemble the Marten String Quartet have
performed at the Wigmore Hall, the foyer of the Festival Hall and
the Purcell Room. They have also given recitals in St Mary Le Bow
(London), St James Piccadilly and St Martin in the Fields and
undertaken work for the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
The quartet have recieved masterclasses from many eminent musicians
including the Amadeus Quartet, the Alberni Quartet, the Brodsky
Quartet, the Vermeer Quartet, the Lindsay Quartet, the Endellion
Quartet and members of the Nash Ensemble.
The members of the quartet completed their music studies at the UK’s
leading music colleges; Trinity College of Music, Royal Northern
College of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal
Academy of Music. They currently combine their work as a quartet
with busy freelance careers in many areas of the music business,
including work for orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra,
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra and shows such
as Chicago, Beauty and the Beast and the Lion King.
