Guide to hire a harpirst

Guide to booking a harpist for your wedding.

1. Give yourself time to find a harpist, many harpists are booked months in advance.

2. Set the date and location for your wedding before contacting a harpist. The harpist will need to check her calendar to see if the date is free. Some harpists charge mileage as part of their fee. How far she will have to carry the harp is something else she will want to know. She will also need to know if it's an outdoor wedding; most harpists have special requirements for playing outside.

3. When you contact Charm Music about your chosen Harpist, be prepared to discuss how long she is to play, either an hourly rate or for the wedding ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast or a combination of the above.

4. Once you have chosen your Harpist and we have confirmed availability and prices, we will issue a contract to you and the Harpist to sign. When returning the contract to CharmMusic a deposit will be required with the balance to be paid usually either 7 days prior to the event or on the day.

5. Arrange for someone to be at the wedding location at least half an hour early for the harpist to set up. This person needs to know where the harp is to be located. There also needs to be a person to signal the harpist when it's time to stop the pre-wedding music and begin the music for the bridal entrance.

6. Allow for a 10 to 15 minute break if the harpist is to play for more than 1 hour. If the Harpist is playing during the reception, offer her refreshments during a break.
