JOHN E CASH & SOUTHERN MAN

John E Cash & Southern Man
BACK TO LISTING

John E Cash – vocals, guitar, banjo & percussion John has a passion for singing, and nervously sung his first song “in public” in 1969, it was the big hit of the time, Johnny Cash’s ‘A boy named Sue’ from the live album San Quinton.

His first live BBC radio broadcast was his award-winning song ‘The Children’ in 1983. Al went on to front several bands, notably Anglo/Celtic folk band The Tam Lin, barn dance band Millrace, and The Orange Tree County Cowboys.

In 2007, John embarked on a solo voice and guitar project as ‘John E Cash’ with several sell out shows at Broadstairs Folk Week on the Kent coast. He was invited back the following year and took to the stage with the newly formed ‘backing band.

John E has performed to thousands on national radio, at festivals and in the most intimate of venues in every county in England and Scotland.

Southern Man - vocals, guitar, harmonica, bass & percussion
SM first picked up the guitar at school as a teenager; and went on to play electric bass in a prog rock band called ‘Fool’s Errand’. A medical career and family life sidelined musical ambition for a while, but it emerged later seeing him play an acoustic tribute to Neil Young to great acclaim.

An accomplished singer songwriter with a recently recorded new album doing well; SM is also enjoying the diversity of playing “Neil Young” to John's “Johnny Cash” with their tribute to the two musical legends, and also a broad range of Americana. Of course, he can slip in the odd song of his own, including the haunting ‘Not come knocking’ about the breakdown of one relationship, due to another with a bottle…
