Technical Requirement: 1. Music: If people have to shout to be heard, then it's too loud for close-up magic. Plan the magic before the DJ or band start up, or between sets. Likewise, any ambient music should be at low levels.

2. Lighting: can be 'moody' but should be bright enough to be able to see small objects, like the print on a playing card.

3. Swallow before magicking: For magic at reception drinks, please ask your venue manager to tell servers to avoid offering food or drink to groups that are being entertained at that moment. Likewise, close-up magic at dinner can be presented to tables that are between courses rather than while they are trying to eat. And finally...

4. Amazon plants: Be careful of big bulky centre pieces on tables: it means that anyone sitting on the other side of one won't see any magic and will feel spectacularly left-out!
